Autumn, the season of change, brings with it the maiden wine list for Sommelier Eleonore Wulf and its celebration of Women in Wine.
Women in Wine
As the Autumn season coincides with International Women’s Day 2019, what better time to champion the efforts of female leaders in the wine industry. The wines below represent a collection of producers with a woman at the helm, cultivated with a strong sense of place and varietal integrity.
This eclectic collection of female winemakers & viticulturists extends to 40% of the Autumn Wine List.
2017 Unico Zelo ‘Slate Farm’ Fiano, Waikerie, Riverland SA (n)
Winemaker Laura Carter 16
This is Fiano, but not as you know it! Laura has crafted a focused wine that speaks to its sense of place. Think wet slate, finger lime and nashi pear.
2014 Bellwether Chardonnay, Tamar Valley TAS
Winemaker Sue Bell 23
The crisp climate of the Tamar Valley captures the more delicate nature of Chardonnay in this elegant wine. Elemental and complex with lively citrus, this wine is incredibly persistent on the palate.
2017 Pooley Pinot Noir, Coal River Valley TAS
Winemaker Anna Pooley 18
First impressions of strawberry and ripe red fruits give way to soft notes of rosemary and basil. A delicate earthy structure fills out with smooth tannin and sour cherry tang.
2017 Cullen Mangan ‘Red Moon’ Malbec Blend, Margaret River WA (bio)
Winemaker Vanya Cullen 16
Reminiscent of baked plum and cherries this wine displays sophistication with a dash of whimsy. Medium bodied, approachable, with sweet spice and fruit integrity.
